The Evolution of Weapons through History
I chose the topic how weapons evolved through warfare because I have loved technology and how it affects humanity. I have considered weapons as a type of technology and thought it would be beneficial to find out how weapons have changed history. Weapons have interested me since I was in 3rd grade when I went to Charleston SC with my Cub Scout pack to sleep over on the USS Yorktown. The Yorktown was an old WWII Aircraft Carrier that had been turned into a museum. It had old Planes, bombs, guns without ammo. You could go inside the turrets and see how they work. My trip was only the beginning of my Interest of weapon tech.
When researching this project I ran into the issue of the same sources turning up repeatedly. I used Dogpile, Google and other search engines as well as looking up and watching a special on the military channel of the best weapons of all time. Also I cited a book, 50 Weapons That Changed Warfare by William Weir. It was difficult to find different sources because the same items come up several times.
For creating my project I plan to create a website. I want to create a tab of my website per era of history of weapons. There will be one tab each for Medieval, Renaissance, WI and WWII and modern day weapons. I will only be using weapons that dramatically changed history such as the sword, bow, gun and tank. Next I plan to have sections per legendary weapon and clips of them in action and a small article on how each weapon changed history.
My project relates to the theme of turning points in history because the weapons I researched are the cause of multiple turning points in history. These weapons molded Time’s flow to their will. Some have changed history so dramatically without them the world would be drastically different than it is today. Without the sword we could possibly still be cavemen. Without the bow Humanity may have become extinct by now. Weapons have changed the course of history, and can change it again. In war and in assassinations weapons have been with humanity from the start, and will be until the last human has died.
